What causes inflammation and joint pain?
Medical Definition of inflammation
A local response to cellular injury that is marked by capillary dilatation, leukocytic infiltration, redness, heat, pain, swelling, and often the loss of function and that serves as a mechanism initiating the elimination of noxious agents and of damaged tissue.
Acute Inflammation
This occurs at the site of injuries, such as a cut on the skin, sprained ankle, sore throat or toothache. It is short-term and localized. Damaged tissue releases substances that trigger an immune response to promote healing. Symptoms include redness, swelling, and pain, heat.
Chronic Inflammation
This is usually a low-grade persistent inflammation.
We are chronically exposed to the triggers. In some situations the triggers are systemic. Other times, different parts of the body are affected. This kind of inflammation can lead to chronic diseases fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, lupus, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s.
Triggers of Chronic Inflammation
Some triggers of chronic inflammation include:
- FOODS
- Refined carbohydrates
- Fried Foods
- Soda and other beverages with sugar
- Processed meat
- Hydrogenated fats like margarine
Triggers of Chronic Inflammation
- CHEMICALS – heavy metals like mercury, lead, cadmium, silver, titanium, aluminum.
BPA, chlorine, MSG, etc. - PATHOGENS – Viruses, bacteria, and parasites
- INJURY – misalignment of spine/joints
Chronic Diseases Attributed to Chronic Inflammation
Certain chronic diseases can cause chronic inflammation. These chronic diseases include:
- ALZHEIMER’S
- ASTHMA
- CANCER
- FIBROMYALGIA
- HEART DISEASE
- PSORIATIC ARTHRITIS
- RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS
- OTHER JOINT PAIN CONDITIONS
Anti-Inflammatory Dietary Herbs
- TUMERIC-CURCUMIN
- OMEGA 3 FATTY ACIDS
- BOSWELLIA
- BROMELAIN
- STINGING NETTLE
- CAT’S CLAW
***Pharmaceutical drugs used to suppress inflammation; NSAIDS like Aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen; Steroids like prednisone, methylprednisolone, cortisone; and other arthritis drugs have side effects that are unacceptable for long-term use. They may be effective in suppressing inflammation and joint pain but do nothing to stop the triggers that cause the inflammation. They also do not heal damaged tissue.
Integrative Solution Nutrition Response Testing
Nutrition response testing can help to identify the underlying cause of inflammation:
Chemical, food, pathogens, misalignments, injury. Eliminate the cause with appropriate therapy, detoxification, food choice, enzymes, antimicrobials, osteopathic manipulations, acupuncture.
Heal compromised tissue/organ with specific nutrition. These can be accomplished with food-based nutritional supplements.
